Abolishing Gender bias in the Australian Construction industry

Construction in Australia is it's second most male-dominated industry (behind mining), with women making up only 18% of the overall workforce and a mere 2% among trade roles. With only 15% of key management positions, 11% of director positions, and 3% of CEO positions being comprised of women in the construction industry, a significant gender pay gap of 26% portrays the need for gender biases to change.

With this notion in mind, the infrastructure company ACCIONA recently completed a construction project at a girls school in Melbourne with a workforce employing up to 50% women - finding that the project was finished ahead of schedule and ahead of budget. This supports research suggesting that having women on site can reduce the amount of negative conflict on site, promoting communication, cooperation and collaboration.
