In the NSW Government, Exempt Development is where some minor building works or renovations don't require planning or building approvals. These developments are considered low impact developments and are applicable for some residential, commercial and industrial properties.

Exempt Development can be applicable for certain structures including decks, garden sheds, carports, fences, repairing a window or painting a house as long as the works meet the required development standards.
