NSW Court has fined a property developer (Grand Epping) and a demolition company (Sydney Trees Excavation and Demolition) a combined $155,000 due to the illegal clearing of 21 trees in preparation of a new boarding house in Sydney's North-West suburbs.
Contrary to the development conditions, the demolition company failed to install tree barriers and cleared 21 (as opposed to the approved 11) trees of which one was a critically endangered species.
A such, Grand Epping was fined $100,000 in breach of two NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act laws while Sydney Tree Excavation and Demolition were fined $55,000 for the breach of three environmental laws.
